HCC loses to Central Lakes in Region 13B Tournament
The HCC Cardinals lost 0-3 to Central Lakes College in the NJCAA Region 13B Tournament at Hibbing on Oct. 31. Game scores were 21-25, 21-25, 20-25.
The Cardinals started stron in game 1 as they rushed to a 7-1 lead behind the kilss of Samantha Lindfors and Klesey Wirtanen. Central Lakes then got back in the game and tied the score as Hibbing committed several unforced errors. All the games were close but the Raiders managed to put the ball down when they needed a big kill.

The Cardinals end their season at 23-15 overall. They were the MCAC North Division Co-Champions (with Central Lakes).

Region 13B All-Tournament Team
Three Cardinals and three Raiders were named to the Region 13B All-Tournament Team. From Hibbing - Breanna Chamernick, middle hitter, Kelsey Wirtanen , middle hitter, and Samantha Lindfors, outside hitter. For Central Lakes - Rachel Pfeffer, setter, Erica Feldewerd, outside hitter, and Jenna Terharra, outside hitter.
Post Season Honors for the Cardinals
Breanna Chamernick has been named to the MCAC All-State First Team. Chamernick and Kelly Hams have been named to the MCAC North All-Division Teams and the MCAC All-Tournament Team for 2009. Chamernick is a sophomore from Hibbing who plays hitter and defensive specialist for the Cards. Hams is a sohpomore setter from Littlefork-Big Falls, MN.
Kelsey Wirtanen and Samantha Lindfors have been named to the MCAC North All-Division Second Team. Wirtanen is a freshman hitter from Hibbing and Lindfors is a sophomore hitter from Hinckley, MN.

HCC takes 3rd place at State
The HCC Volleyball Team placed third at the MCAC State Tournament held in Thief River Falls, MN Oct. 24-25. Seeded #1 from the North Division the Cardinals defeated Riverland CC 3-0 in the first match of the tournament. Game scores were 25-18, 25-18, 25-9. The Cardinals were on top of their game serving for 94% and receiving at 92%. Kelsey Wirtanen had 17 kills with Samantha Lindfors getting 14. Breanna Chamernick had 8 kills and 22 digs.
In the semifianla match, Hibbing faced Rochester CTc and fell 0-3. Game scores were 17-25, 16-25, 23-25. "The Cardinalsgot beat by a very good team" said Coach Turnbull. The passing game of the Cards was not crisp. Wirtanen had 12 kills and Lindfors had 6. Chamernick had 14 digs with Wirtanen, Krystal Ramfjord, and Kelly Hams each having 10.
In the third place contest the Cardinals defeated MSCTC-Fergus Falls 3-1. Game scores were 25-17, 15-25, 25-22, 25-15.
The Cardinals will be hosting Central Lakes College on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 1 pm in the Region 13B Tournament. The winner of this match will advance to the NJCAA DIII National Tournament Nov. 13-14 in Rochester, MN. The Cards are 23-14 overall for the season and 11-3 and Division co-champions in the MCAC North Division.

HCC drops match to St. Scholastica JV
The HCC Volleyball Team lost to St. Scholastica JV 1-3 on Tuesday, Oct. 20 in Duluth. Game scores were 18-25, 25-14, 13-25, 18-25.
The Cardinals were flat defensively but received great performances at the net from Samantha Lindfors with 23 kills and Kelsey Wirtanen with 19 kills. Breanna Chamernick had 12/12 serves and Krystal Ramfjor had 10/10. Chamernick had 4 kills, 24 digs, and 9/9 on serve receive. Wirtanen had 14 digs and Andrea Miller had 13. Wirtanen had 2 blocks. Kelly Hams had 47 out of 85 set assists.
The Cardinals are 11-3 in the MCAC North Division and 21-13 overall. Next up for the Cards is the MCAC State Tournament Oct. 24-25 in Theif River Falls, MN. The Cards enter the tournament as the #1 seed from the North Division and will face the #4 seed from the South Division Riverland CC.

Cardinals Support Breast Cancer Awareness Month
The HCC Volleyball Team is wearing pink in the month of October to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The pink jerseys are to remind everyone at the games of the battle against cancer and to help raise awareness of the need for funding for research.
HCC defeats Central Lakes in playoff
The HCC Volleyball Team defeated Central Lakes College 3-0 on Saturday, Oct. 17 in Hibbing. Game scores were 25-21, 25-23, 25-22. The victory gives the Cardinals the #1 North seed into the MCAC State Tournament and the right to host the Region 13B Tournament on Oct. 31 for the right to go to the NJCAA National Tournament Nov. 13-14, 2009 in Rochester, MN.
Both teams fought hard and hustled all over the court scrambling after balls. The Cardinals played tough defense and keep returning Central Lakes' s hits. The Cards served 95% as a team with Andrea Miller and Breanna Chamernick getting 2 ace serves each. Miller's first ace serve closed out game #2 for the Cards and her second ace serve put the Cards ahead 24-22 in game 3. Serving 100% for the Cards were Chamernick 14/14, Kelsey Wirtanen 10/10, Krystal Ramfjord 8/8, and Kelly Hams 15/15. Smaantha Lindfors had a big game at the net with 15 kills, Wirtanen had 13 kills and Chamernick 7. The Cardinals had 65 digs as a tema with Chamernick getting 18, Wirtanen 15, Kasey Palmer 9, and Ramfjord 8. Chamernick and Wirtanen had 2 blocks each. Palmer and Lindfors each had a block. Kelly Hams had 31/62 set assists with Palmer getting 6/22 assists.
The Cardinals are 11-3 in the MCAC North Division, Division co-champions with Central Lakes. The Cards are 21-12 overall. They will be traveling to Duluth on Oct. 20 to paly St. Scholastica JV at 4 pm.

HCC goes 0-2 at Central Lakes Tournamet
HCC participated in the Central Lakes College Tournament in Brainerd, Oct. 15. The tournament featured the #1 and 2 teams from the North and South Division of the MCAC. The south was victorious as both Hibbing and Central Lakes fell to Rochester CTC and to Ridgewater College.
In the first match Hibbing lost 0-3 to Ridgewater. Game scores were 21-25, 25-27, 22-25. Hibbing played tought but could not match the firepowere of Ridgewater. Kelsey Wirtanen had 13 kills, Samantha Lindfors, 12, and Breanna Chamernick 8. Chamernick was 100% form the service line (7/7) and 100% on serve receive (9/9). She also had 13 digs and Wirtanen had 14. Kelly Hams had 28/61 set assists.
In the match versus Rochester CTC, Hibbing lost 0-3 with game scores of 23-25, 21-25, 22-25. Breanna Chamernick was 9/9 from the service line, had 10 kills, 15 digs, 7/7 on serve receive, and had 2 blocks. Kelsey Wirtanen was 12/12 from the service line, had 8 kills, and 10 digs. Samantha Lindofrs had 5 kills, 9 digs, 1 block, and was 5/5 on serve receive. Krystal Ramfjord was 5/5 from the service line, had 4 kills and 11 digs. Kelly Hams was 13/13 from the service line, had 4 kills, 6 digs and 25/64 set assists.
The Cardinals 11-3 in the MCAC North Division and Division co-champions with Central Lakes College. The Cards are 20-12 overall. They will host Central Lakes College on Saturday, Oct. 17 in a play-off game for the North #! seed into the state tournament and the right to host the Regions 13B tournament on Oct. 31.
HCC defeats Northland CTC
The HCC Volleyball Team defeated Northland CTC 3-0 on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at Hibbing. Game scores were 25-21, 25-22, 25-19. The win gives the Cards Co-Division Champions with Central Lakes College. There will be a playoff game on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 1 pm in Hibbing to decide the #1 seed and who will host the Region 13B Tournament.
The Cardinals are 11-3 in the MCAC North Division (first place) and 20-10 overall. They will participte in the Central Lakes Tournament on Thursday, Oct. 15 in Brainerd, MN.

HCC defeats Mesabi Range
The HCC Volleyball Team pulled out a conference win verus Mesabi Range CC on Oct. 10. The Cardinals won the match 3-2 with game scores of 21-25, 20-25, 26-24, 25-21, 16-14. The match was a treat for the spectators as both teams battled for the victory. Mesabi jumped out to a 2-0 lead with wins in the first two games. Hibbing fought back and with determination won game 3 26-24. Games 4 and 5 were nail biters all the way. In the deciding game, Mesabi held a 14-11 lead. Hibbing erased the deficit with hustle all over the court to return Mesabi's attack attempts. With the score tied at 14-14 Krystal Ramfjord put down her only kill of the day then Andrea Miller served up an ace to end the match.
The Cardinals had 63 kills in the match with Kelsey Wirtanen getting 26. The Cards had 126 digs in the contest with 6 Cardinals hitting double digits - Breanna Chamernick led the way with 29, Krystal Ramfjord had 27, Wirtanen had 22, and Kelly Hams had 20. The Cardinals are 10-3 in the MCAC North Division and tied for first place with Central Lakes College. The Cards are 19-10 overall. They will close out the regular season by hosting Northland CTC on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 6:30 pm. The Cards have qualified for the MCAC State Tournament held in Thief River Falls, MN Oct 24-25, 2009.

HCC defeats Vermilion
The HCC Volleyball Team defeated Vermilion CC 3-0 on Oct. 9 at Ely, MN. Game scores were 25-18, 25-13, 25-13. The Cardinals came out strong in the match and never looked back as they put 39 killls on the floorand had 54 digs. Samantha Lindfors had 13 kills and Kelsey Wirtanen had 11. Wirtanen and Krystal Rmafjord had 14 digs each.

The Cardinals are 9-3 in the MCAC North Division and 18-10 overall. They will be in Virginia on Oct. 10 in a contest versus Mesabi Range CC.
HCC defeats Rainy River
The HCC Volleyball Team defeated Rainy River CC 3-2 on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at Hibbing. Game scores were 25-12, 23-25, 25-12, 15-13.
Hibbing came out fired up in game 1and won 25-12. Rainy River responded in game 2 and won 23-25 and the tight match was on. Both teams had hit the ball hard and hustled all over the court. Hibbing had 92 digs on the night, served 103/108 for 95%, and had serve receive at 93% (76/81). The Cardinals also got 8 blocks in the match and had 169 attacks with 69 going for kills.

The Cardinals are 8-3 in the MCAC North Division (currently tied for first) and 17-10 overall. They will be on the road this weekend as they travel to Vermilion CC on Friday, Oct. 9 and then to Mesabi Range CC on Saturday, Oct. 10.

HCC defeats Fond du Lac
The HCC Volleyball Team defeated Fond du Lac Tribal & Community College 3-0 on Saturday, Oct. 3 at hibbing. Rebounding from the previous night, Hibbing passed and set the ball with more consistency. Game scores were 25-18, 25-17, 25-15.

Playing in their second match of the day, the Cardinals defeated Gogebic CC 2-0. Game scores were 25-12, 25-7. HCC loses to Itasca CC
The HCC Volleyball Team lost 1-3 to Itasca CC on Oct. 2 at Hibbing. Game scores were 12-25, 14-25, 27-25, 18-25. The Cardinals were sluggish most of the match and played against a consistent and hard-hitting Itasca squad. Match statistics: Serving - Wirtanen 11/11, Hams 13/13; Aces - Chamernick 1, Ramfjord 1; Kills - Wirtanen 14, Chamernick 13, Lindfors 5, Hams 5; Service Receive - Chamernick 10/10, Palmer 8/8; Digs - Chamernick 23, Wirtnaen 21, Hams 14, Palmer 13, Ramfjord 10; Set Assists - Hams 18/56, Palmer 14/58.
In the second match, the Cardinals defeated Gogebic 2-0 with game scores of 25-13 and 25-8. The Cards are 6-3 in the MCAC North Division and 14-10 overall. The Cardinals will host Fond du Lac Tribal & Community College on Saturday, Oct. 3 at noon. Fond du Lac will then play Gogebic CC, and Hibbing will play Gogebic CC again.

HCC defeats Central Lakes College
The HCC Volleyball defeated Central Lakes College 3-1 on Wed., Sept. 30 in Brainerd, MN. Game scores were 25-22, 17-25, 26-24, 25-22. Movement and hustle wre the keys for the Cardinal victory. The team had 90 digs on the evening with Breanna Chamernick getting 34. The Cards put down 50 kills with Chamernick leading the way with 14 and Daisha VanOverbeke having 10. Kelsie Wirtanen had a .411 attack % for the evening.

Hibbing is 6-2 in the MCAC North Division and 13-9 overall. The Cardinals will be hosting Itasca CC and Gogebic CC on Friday, Oct. 2. Matches start at 6:30 pm. On Saturday the Cardinals will host Fond du Lac TCC at noon followed by matches with Fond du Lac versus Gogebic and HCC versus Gogebic.

HCC goes 0-4 at NDSCS Tournament
The HCC Volleyball Team dropped all four matches at the NDSCS Tournament in Whapeton, ND on Sept. 26. The Cardinals lost 0-2 to Jamestown JV 23, 25, 18-25; lost 0-2 to NDSCS 22-25, 17-25; lost 1-2 to Dakota College-Bottineau 15-25, 25-21, 10-15; and lost 1-2 to Williston State 15-25, 25-21, 10-15.
The Cardinals were without the services of Kelsie Wirtanen for the weekend and ran into some very tought competition. Statistics for the match: Serves - Chamernick 30/30; Aces - Chamernick 3, Hams 2, VanOverbeke 2, Miller 1, Lindfors 1; Kills - VanOverbeke 22, Chamernick 19, Lindfors 18; Digs - chamernick 33, Ramfjord 28, Miller 27, Hams 24, Palmer 21, VanOverbeke 12; Blocks - Lindfors 5, VanOverbeke 4, Hams 2, Palmer 2, Chamernick 1, Showalter 1; Set ASsists - Hams 66/191, Palmer 4/9, VanOverbeke 2/6.
The Cardinals are 5-2 in the MCAC North Division and 12-9 overall. They will travel to Brainerd, MN on Wednesday, SEpt. 30 for a 6:30 pm match versus Central Lakes College. This will start the second round of conference play with the Cardinals tied with Central Lakes and NOrthland for 2nd place in the North Division.
HCC loses to Northland
The HCC Volleyball Team dropped a tough match to Northland CTC 2-3 on Wed., Sept. 23 at Theif River FAlls, MN. Game scores were 15-25, 25-12, 20-25, 25-22, 13-15. Both teams battled the entire match and had long rallies back and forth for points. The Cardinals did a lot of swinning at the ball with 147 attack attempts. The 5th and deciding game of the match saw Northland race to a 6-0 led before the Cardinals came bak and tied the score at 9-9, 11-11, and 13-13. Northland got 1 big kill then Hibbing was called in the net to end the match.

HCC Defeats Vermilion
The HCC Volleyball Team defeated Vermilion CC 3-0 on Saturday in Hibbing. The Cardinals started strong with a first game 25-8 win. The Cards continued strong play and every player saw court time. The Cardinals won game #2 25-15 and game #3 25-13.

HCC defeats Mesabi Range 3-0
The HCC Volleyball Team defeated Mesabi Range CC 3-0 on Friday at Hibbing. The Cardinals came out on firs in game #1 and won 25-12. Mesabi cam bouncing back and made the second game close with Hibbing winning 26-24. Hibbing clinched the victory with a 25-17 third game victory.

The HCC Volleyball Team defeated Rainy River CC 3-0 on Wednesday, sept. 16 at International Falls, MN. Game scores were 25-29, 26-24, 25-19.

HCC goes 2-2 at Ridgewater Tournament
The HCC Volleyball Team went 2-2 at the Ridgewater Tournament. The defeated Bismarck State JV 2-1 (25-23, 19-25, 15-10) and UM-Morris JV 2-0 (25-19, 27-25). They lost to Ridgewater College 0-2 (19-25, 14-25) and to Bethel College JV 0-2 (20-25, 24-26).
On the day Breanna Chamernick led the Cardinals with 6 ace serves,19 kills, 100% serve receive (30/30), and 59 digs. HCC loses to Central Lakes
The HCC Volleyball Team lost 2-3 to Central Lakes College in their MCAC Conference match at Hibbing on Wednesday, Sept. 9. Game scores were 25-15, 25-23, 21-25, 24-26, 10-15.
The Cardinals started strong winning the first two games of the match. Central Lakes came back winning the next two games to make the match even at 2-2. Hibbing had trouble handling serve receive in the last three games and lost their ability to attack with the ball. Match Statistics: Service - Chamernick 17/17. HCC goes 2-0 in WI
The HCC Volleyball Team defeated UW-Barron Co. 2-0 and UW-Rock Co. 2-0 on Saturday, Sept. 5 in Rice Lake, WI.
In the first match HCC won 25-12, 25-8 versus UW-Rock Co. Against UW-Barron Co. they won 25-9, 25-18. All of the Cardinals got time on the floor and touches on the ball. The HCC Volleyball defeted Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College Sept. 4 at Cloquet. Game scores were 25-14, 25-20, 25-19.

HCC defeats Itasca CC
The HCC Volleyball Team opened their 2009 MCAC Conference season with a win over Itasca CC on Wednesday, Sept. 2 at Grand Rapids, MN. Game scores were 25-22, 25-22, 23-25, 25-14.
The Cardinals ended the match strong and had 48 kills for the match. Krystal Ramfjord had 100% serving (15/15). Kelly Hams had 2 aces and Breanna Chamernick, Kelsey Wirtanen, Kasey Palmer and Daisha VanOverbeke had 1 each. HCC goes 3-1 at MN State Tournament
The HCC Volleyball Team opened their 2009 season with a 3-1 record and 2nd place finish at the MN State CC Tournament in Fergus Falls on Saturday, August 29.
The Cardinals defeated Mesabi Range CC 2-1 (23-25, 25-21, 15-9); Itasca CC 2-1 (23-25, 25-17, 15-13); and MN State 2-1 (25-19, 24-26, 15-9) to win their pool play. Hibbing then faced Rochester CTC in the Championship match. Rochester defeated HCC 2-0 ( 25-15, 25-22).
The Cardinals are 3-1 to start the season. They will be opening the MCAC North Division Conference season on Wed., Sept. 2 when they travel to Grand Rapids, MN and take on Itasca CC at 6:30 pm
