Fallyn Morehouse, Breann Gruenhagen, Kirstin Lahti and Christina Wickingson were all named to the 2015 Region XIII B All-Tournament team. Great job!
Christina Wickingson, Kirstin Lahti and Fallyn Morehouse were all named to the MCAC North Division All-Conference team in softball. Wickingson and Lahti were named to the first team and Morehouse was named to the second team. Great job ladies!
Fallyn Morehouse was named the MCAC Northern Division Pitcher of the Week. Fallyn led the Cardinals to a 2nd place regular season finish and also to a Northern Division Tournament championship this past week posting a 5-1 record from the circle. She struck out 23 batters while only walking 5 in 42 innings pitched and posted a 3.00 ERA. Fallyn is a freshman from Hibbing, MN.
Congratulations to the 2015 Lady Cardinal Softball team on winning the MCAC Northern Division Tournament this weekend! The team went 4-0 on the weekend to claim the championship. They defeated Mesabi Range in the title game 7-1. Great job ladies!
Three Hibbing Community College sophomore athletes will be moving on to play sports at different colleges next season. Signing their letters of intent are from the left, Beau Howard of Pine River who will play basketball at St. Scholastica; Christina Wickingson of Mason, WI; who will play basketball and softball at Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, MN; and Anthony Fisher of Akeley, MN who will play basketball at the University of Minnesota-Morris. Congratulations to these three fine student athletes. The HCC athletics staff are very proud of you!
Cardinal volleyball coach Mike Turnbull is proud to announce the prospective HCC volleyball roster for the 2015 season. The Cardinals returned to post-season play in 2014 by finishing 4th in the MCAC North Division before losing to Central Lakes College in the NJCAA Region 13B Semi-Finals. Turnbull has a hard time not showing how excited he is about the 2015 edition of Cardinal Volleyball. "On paper this looks like a deep, talented roster that should compete for a division title and a return to post-season play." "I realize and I want our players to realize that you don't win matches on paper. We need to work hard in the off season and come into fall camp in shape and ready to compete on a high level every day come August." "Traditionally our division and the MCAC Conference boasts some of the best NJCAA teams in the country and it is never an easy road to the post-season."
The 2015-16 sophomore class will include four starters from last year's team; Josie Greenwood and Khai LaBarge from Hibbing, MN and Emily Hall and Sydney Lough from Floodwood, MN. Kathryn Wojciechowski from Hibbing and CJ Jesperson, a transfer from Mesabi Range who is also from Hibbing, round out the sophomore class.
The freshman class provides a stockpile of talent. Michelle Paulson from Hibbing, Miranda Wickman and Ashley Mossuto from Drummond High School in Wisconsin, Elizabeth Eccles from Superior, WI. Zoe Bystrom and Samantha Wardas from Northwoods High School. Sophia Newman from Nashwauk-Keewatin High School and Alex Cromley from Mesabi East High School rounds out a potentially outstanding group of incoming freshmen.
It may only be March but Coach Turnbull and the Cardinal volleyball team anxiously look forward to the 2015 season. The Cardinals will open practice on August 9th. The regular season will begin at the Spartan Tournament in Fergus Falls, MN on Aug. 22nd. Hibbing will begin MCAC North Division play on August 28th at home against Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College.
Amber Zapata and Melissa Weisbrick were named to the All-MCAC North Division team and they were also named to the MCAC All-State team for women's basketball. Zapata is a sophomore guard from Orr, MN and Weisbrick is a freshman post player from Hibbing, MN. Great job ladies!
Coach Katherine Brau was named MCAC North Division women's basketball coach of the year. Great job Kate! The athletics department is proud of what you and your ladies have accomplished this season! Good luck at the Region XIII tournament this weekend!
Anthony Fisher was named to the to the All-MCAC North Division team and to the MCAC All-State team for men's basketball. Fisher is a sophomore post player from Akeley, MN.
The HCC Lady Cardinals qualified for the Region XIII B tournament. They finished the conference season with a 10-4 record and 2nd place in the MCAC North Division. Good luck ladies!
Anthony Fisher a sophomore center from Akeley, MN was named MCAC Northern Division player of the week in men's basketball. Anthony averaged 15.3 ppg and 14 rpg for the Cardinals this past week. He scored 21 points and pulled down 20 rebounds in a conference win over Fond du Lac.
Melissa Weisbrick, a freshman forward from Hibbing was named MCAC Northern Division Player of the Week. Melissa averaged a double-double (12 ppg, 13.5 rpg) for the Cardinals in a pair of games this past week. She grabbed 16 rebounds in a 44-40 win over United Tribes and added 17 points while shooting 50% from the field in a 53-72 loss to Gogebic.
Ebony Gray was named 1st team All-MCAC and All-Region in volleyball. She is a freshman middle hitter from Hibbing, MN. Congratulations Ebony on a great season!

The HCC Cardinal volleyball team for qualifying for the Region XIII B tournament! The Lady Cardinals finished the conference season with a 6-6 mark and 4th place in the MCAC North Division. They will open Region tournament play at 6:00 PM on Friday the 31st against the #1 seeded Central Lakes Raiders. Good luck ladies!!!
Ebony Gray and Christina Wickingson on being named MCAC Northern Division players of the week. Christina was named Setter of the Week in the Northern Division. She directed the Cardinals offense handing out 39 assists (9.75) in a conference win vs. Mesabi Range that clinched a post-season playoff spot for the Cardinals. Christina also had 4 digs, 2 kills and 2 blocks in the game. She is a sophomore from Mason, WI.
Ebony was named Hitter of the Week for the third week in a row for the Northern Division. She led the Cardinals to a 3-1 win over Mesabi Range with 18 kills (4.5) while hitting .340. Gray also had 6 digs, one block and one ace in the match. She is a freshman from Hibbing, MN.
Ebony Gray was named MCAC Northern Division Hitter of the Week for the second week in a row. Ebony continued her strong play at the net finishing the week with 48 kills (6.0) and a .444 attack %. Ebony added 22 digs (2.75) and 3 blocks on the week. She is a freshman from Hibbing, MN.
Ebony Gray was named MCAC Northern Division Hitter of the Week. Ebony recorded kills on her first 17 swings of the match during a 3-0 division win vs. Vermilion. Gray had 22 kills (7.33) with only one attack error while hitting .807 for the contest. She is a freshman from Hibbing, MN.
Christina Wickingson was named MCAC Northern Division Setter of the Week. Christina had 147 assists (8.16) and 41 digs (2.27) as Hibbing won 3 of 5 matches this past week. Wickingson also had 6 aces, including four in a 3-1 win over St. Cloud. Christina is a sophomore from Mason, WI.
Christina Wickingson was named MCAC Northern Division Setter of the Week. Christina increased her season assist total to 405 with 105 during the past week where the Cardinals went 2-1. Wickingson added 16 digs, 5 aces, 3 blocks and 3 kills. She is a sophomore from Mason, WI.
Kirstin Lahti and DeAnn Bjerklie for being named to the MCAC All-Northern Division 2nd team in Softball. Lahti is a center fielder and Bjerklie played third base and pitcher for the Cardinals. Both ladies are freshmen from Cherry High School.
Berkley Coombe was named MCAC Northern Division Pitcher of the week in baseball. Berkley pitched a complete game victory on Sunday against Fond du Lac. He gave up 5 hits, walked 2 and struck out 10 in his first game for the Cardinals. Berkley is a freshman from Hibbing, MN.
The following student athletes were named to the MCAC All-Academic team for fall semester 2013.
Laura Badavinac, Greenway HS / Cassidy Baron, Ellen Lescarbeau, and Gabby Sundquist, Chisholm HS / Christina Wickingson, Mason, WI / Courtney Wirtanen, Hibbing HS. All of these ladies are members of the HCC volleyball team. Great job!
More post season awards for the Cardinals. On the women's side both Christina Wickingson and Taylor Martin were named to the All-MCAC women's basketball team. Christina averaged 10.5 ppg, 4.1 apg and 2.3 stpg. Taylor averaged 14 ppg and 9.6 rpg while shooting 43% from the floor. On the men's side Jerry Pratt and Sam Willis were named to the All-North Division MCAC team and Pratt was also named to the All-MCAC team. The All-MCAC team consists of players from both the north and south divisions of the MCAC. Jerry had 17.7 ppg and 9.5 rpg and shot 59% from the floor for the season. Sam scored at a 17 ppg pace and also added 2.4 steals per game.
Jerry Pratt and Sam Willis were named MCAC Northern Division co-players of the week. They led the Cardinals to a pair of key division wins averaging 22 and 22.5 ppg respectively. Pratt sank 19 of 26 FGA (73%) while Willis nailed 6 of 8 3FGA (75%) and 11 of 13 FTA (85%). Both are sophomores from Minneapolis, MN.
Christina Wickingson and Taylor Martin were both named to the All-MCAC 2nd team and the MCAC Northern Division All-Conference 2nd team in women's basketball. Wickingson is a freshman from Mason, WI and Martin is a freshman from Alden, MN.
Taylor Martin was named MCAC Northern Division player of the week in women's basketball. Taylor led the Cardinals with 25 ppg and 15.5 rpg including a 29 pt. 21reb. effort in a hard fought loss to Vermilion this past week. Martin made 21 of 29 FGA for the week. She is a freshman from Alden, MN.
Ashlyn Norman was named MCAC Northern Division player of the week in women's basketball. Ashlyn averaged 21 ppg and 12.5 rpg while shooting 49% from the field in two conference games this past week. She is a freshman from Hibbing, MN.
Jerry Pratt was named MCAC Northern Division player of the week in men's basketball. Jerry scored 101 points in 4 games this past week (25.2 ppg) and added 10 rpg for the Cardinals. Pratt shot 62% from the floor and added 34 points from the charity stripe. He is a sophomore from Minneapolis, MN.
Taylor Martin was named the MCAC Northern Division player of the week in women's basketball. Taylor averaged 10 ppg, 8.5 rpg and 2 spg in a pair of games this past week. She is a freshman from Alden, MN.
Courtney Wirtanen was named to the MCAC All North Division Volleyball Team for the 2013 season. She is a sophomore Libero from Hibbing, MN.
Courtney Wirtanen was named the MCAC Northern Division Libero of the week. Courtney recorded 39 digs, received at 91% and served 100% in a pair of games against nationally ranked opponents this past week. Courtney is a sophomore from Hibbing, MN.
Christina Wickingson was named the MCAC Northern Division Setter of the week. Christina averaged 9.66 assists/game for Hibbing with a high of 30 in a 3-0 win over Fond du Lac TCC this past week. She is a freshman from Mason, WI.
Courtney Wirtanen was named the MCAC Northern Division Libero of the week. Courtney recorded 66 digs and served 91% and had 3 kills in three matches this past week for the Cardinals.She is a sophomore from Hibbing, MN.
