Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aide

Program Description

Nursing Assistant / Home Health Aide students work directly under the supervision of a registered nurse to become familiar with the duties and responsibilities of a nursing assistant and home health aide. They learn to provide services contributing to the welfare of patients in a hospital, nursing home, or private setting.

Students interested in the Nursing Assistant course will register for a month-long course, ALHE 1500-Introduction to Nursing (Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aide), which is offered several times throughout the year. This four-credit course includes classroom theory and testing as well as instruction in how to assist patients with hygiene, feeding, skin care, bed making, movement and other general assistance. Clinical experience at a local nursing home is required. Nursing ALHE 1500 is a prerequisite to most Practical Nursing programs and to HCC's Nursing program.
